Characteristics of catalysts

There are four basic characteristics of catalytic reactions. They can be derived by definition. They are important for understanding the function of catalysts. [2]

1, the catalyst can only accelerate the thermodynamic reaction can be carried out. When a new chemical reaction catalyst is required, a thermodynamic analysis of the reaction is first performed to see if it is a thermodynamically feasible reaction.

2, the catalyst can only accelerate the reaction tends to balance, can not change the equilibrium position of the reaction (equilibrium constant).

3, the catalyst has selectivity to the reaction. When the reaction may have more than one direction, the catalyst accelerates only one of them, which promotes the reaction rate and selectivity to be uniform.

4. Life of catalyst. The catalyst can change the rate of chemical reaction, which does not enter the reaction itself, and in the ideal case the catalyst is not changed by reaction. But in the actual reaction process, the catalyst will undergo some physical and chemical changes for a long time.

According to the definition and characteristics of the catalyst, there are three important indicators: activity, selectivity and stability.
